About Facula Lodge
A friendly Halifax Lodge whose name means “a spot where there is brightness”.
Our beginnings
Before Facula Lodge was formed, Freemasons from Halifax travelled to Haworth to attend the Lodge of Three Graces No. 408. As local membership grew, St. John’s Lodge was established in Halifax. Members of St. John’s later gathered during 1925 to consider creating a new daughter Lodge.
The first Founders’ meeting took place on 12 January 1926 at the Blackwall Masonic building. Facula Lodge No. 4825 was consecrated on 21 April 1926. St. John’s is therefore remembered as the Lodge’s Mother Lodge and Three Graces as its Grandmother Lodge.
Why “Facula”?
The name comes from Latin and has been described by the Lodge as meaning “a spot where there is brightness”. The radiant sun at the heart of the Lodge emblem reflects that sense of light, warmth and optimism.
Friendship, family and service
Facula brings together people from different walks of life. Members meet formally as a Lodge, while social occasions give partners, families and friends opportunities to share in the wider friendship of the Lodge.
Over the years, Facula has supported local causes including Scout groups, schools, Calderdale Hospital Radio and the MS Society, as well as wider Provincial charitable appeals.
A centenary to remember
The centenary year offered an opportunity to celebrate the Lodge’s heritage while looking confidently to the future. It brought together members, companions and guests in a spirit of gratitude, continuity and renewed purpose.
