FACULA LODGE No.4825
SOUTHWOOD BIRDCAGE LANE HALIFAX HX3 0JQ
Facula Lodge is a Lodge of Freemasons established in 1926 in the Province of Yorkshire West Riding under the constitution of the United Grand Lodge of England. Our history is linked to that of St. John’s Lodge our Mother Lodge and The Lodge of Three Graces in Howarth our Grandmother Lodge. In 1925 several of St John’s Lodge members got together to discuss forming a new daughter Lodge to accommodate the increase in membership.
Facula Lodge has always been known for its friendly and sociable nature and caring for our members and their families. Members range in age from 18 and upwards and come from various backgrounds, professions and trades, each bringing different qualities, experiences and interests to the Lodge.
As Freemasons we follow Three Grand Principles: -
Brotherly Love – Every Freemason will show tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and behave with kindness and understanding to his fellow creatures.
Relief – Freemasons are taught to practise charity and to care, not only for their own family but also for the community as a whole. We bring this principle to life through charitable giving locally to Scout groups, schools and causes including Calderdale Hospital Radio and the MS Society; through the Province for larger charities (Air Ambulance, Hospices, McMillan etc.); and through voluntary efforts and works as individuals, every penny raised goes to the charity.
Truth – Freemasons strive for truth and honesty, demonstrating high moral standards and applying this in their own lives.
Freemasons believe that these principles taken as a whole represent a way of making them a better person and living a fulfilled life.
Our ‘Regular Lodge Meeting' is held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.00pm when afterwards we enjoy a meal together and propose short toasts. On other Tuesdays we meet informally at 7.30pm to rehearse our Ceremonies, to chat and to have a relaxing drink in the friendly company of our fellow members. We don’t discuss religion or politics at our meetings, two subjects which can cause discord between members of any group.
We come together socially at other times during the year with our partners, families and friends, when we organise functions such as a Christmas Dinner with a local brass band or choir and less formal events such as walks, meals out at local pubs and restaurants and our annual Lodge weekend away with our partners and friends.
Our annual Lodge fee can be paid in monthly instalments and covers the running costs of the Lodge and Southwood, and the annual membership fee to the United Grand Lodge of England and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Yorkshire West Riding. As a Lodge member, you can attend meetings of other Lodges for no extra fee (apart from dining). We have a three-course meal after each of our `Regular Meetings’, the cost of the meal is not included. There is a one-off Joining fee for becoming a member of the Lodge to cover administration costs. Members under 25 receive a discount on some fees.
